WDC Proposed zone changes in the Matapouri Area

The Whangarei District Council recently held an information session at the Hall to provide information about the proposed zone changes to the Matapouri Structure Plan. There was a formal presentation by Whangarei District Council planners at 7pm on May 5.

The zone changes were proposed following community consultation five years ago, when the Matapouri Structure Plan was developed (Download a PDF copy). The Structure Plan pulled together the community's views of where development should be allowed in the area and the vision for the area, but has no legal status unless it is incorporated into the District Plan. We realise that a long time has passed since the original structure plans were adopted and we are thus updating them.

Consultants have been appointed to update the plan and the Council has supplied a Draft report (Download a PDF copy here) that is subject to change.

Please send your submissions and responses to the Whangarei District Council by May 26 2008 at the latest - if you need longer because we have only just got this information around please contact Clyton Moyo asap.

Hello Leonie

The type of form to be used for feedback is not particularly important at this stage. We accept any comments, be it an email or slow mail. Responses are due by May 23 2008.

The differences between an operative distict plan and a structure plan is that the District plan shows current land use zones e.g the areas zoned Living 1, Living 3 or Business zone. The District Plan is a legal document with statutory effect. A structure plan is only a guide of how we want development to occur in the area over the next 20 years or so. It has no legal/statutory effect unless incorporated into the District Plan.

A structure plan map for Matapouri is available on the WDC website: Link here

We have requested additional information to put up on the website to keep you up to date. So keep watching.
