Projects & Activities: 07-08 summer Beach & Estuary Cleanup

FRIENDS OF MATAPOURI INCORPORATED (FOM) is involved in many conservation and protection activities.

Over the summer of 2007-2008 a dedicated group of people including families, residents and friends helped clean up the estuary and beach.

Groups of kayaks and other water craft headed out from Te Wairoa Reserve and up the end of Clements Road collected rubbish. Another group scoured the beach and sand dunes and collected over 10 bags of rubbish.

Many thanks to the Whangarei District Council for generously donating pre-paid rubbish bags.

Many thanks to all the participants who gave so generously of their time. Despite the wet conditions we all had a very successful cleanup.
